History of PPSC

The Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) is the oldest Public Service Commission in Pakistan, originally established in April 1937 under the Government of India Act, 1935. Following the independence of Pakistan in 1947, the Act was adapted to suit the newly formed country. The role and responsibilities of the Commission were subsequently defined in the constitutions of 1956 and 1962.

During the formation of One Unit, the Commission was renamed the West Pakistan Public Service Commission. However, following the dissolution of One Unit on 01 July, 1970, it reverted to its original name, the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC).

The PPSC is entrusted with the responsibility of conducting direct recruitment for various posts under the Government of Punjab. It operates as a statutory body under the provisions of the Punjab Public Service Commission Ordinance 1978, PPSC Regulations 2022, and the Manual of Policy Decisions, all framed in accordance with Article 242 of the Constitution of Pakistan (1973).

As a special institution, PPSC enjoys a distinct status and operates under the administrative control of the Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD), Government of Punjab.
